INFORMATION

So, you've decided to join the Science Fiction Society.
Firstly you should be made aware of a number of rules and regulations which govern behaviour within the society. Ready?
Here we go.


The Science Fiction Society does not translate as the Star Trek Society. While we may show a number of Star Trek episodes during the year, we are not Trekkies by any means. The fact that our drinking game is based on the series is purely coincidental.

Heavy drinking unfortunately features largely in the daily running of the society. Don't worry, every other society in U.C.C. operates in much the same way.

Some people (who will remain nameless) are of the opinion that the Science Fiction Society is "a small elitist splinter group bereft of originality". Just ignore these arrogant and flippant remarks, and remember: they are always wrong and we are always right.

Darth Vader is really Luke's dad.

The Auditor of the society is always correct in all things. If he or she says Dr. Bashir is a secret Romulan spy, then he is. (He's got an english accent for Christ's sake. He must be a bad guy.)

How to become a member:


The wearing of anoraks is not obligatory. However, the payment of �2 membership fee is.

The �2 membership fee gets you a lovingly-crafted membership card, which allows you free access to all Sci Fi events. It gives you access to the Sci Fi Library, which is (wait for it) free. It also allows you to avail of a whole load of (you guessed it) free beer. It's a pretty sweet deal basically. So join up. Now. Please.

Regular Events:


The Science Ficton Society normally shows episodes of television series or films on a Thursday night, at around 7pm, down in the Boole Basement. Please note that the time and venue are subject to change, just keep an eye out for the posters scattered around college for up-to-date information on the week's event. We also try to organise a number of other events such as talks or lectures on science fiction, horror or fantasy related themes. For example last year we hosted talks on U.F.O.s and extra terrestrial life, paganism, the psychology of Star Trek. Other events held are of a social persuasion - pub quizes, Star Trek drinking game, Mastermind - basically, we attempt to run a number of special events throughout the year to appeal to those who like to participate in the society.

It's about appeasing all your Science Fiction needs. It's about getting to see the latest films and television episodes of your favourite series. It's about keeping you informed on all the latest happenings in the world of Sci Fi. It's about getting drunk and cheering when Wesley Crusher bites the dust. It's about enjoying yourselves.
